What We Do Helps Others

When the Angel visited Mary, a young, single, engaged women and told her that God wanted her to bear His son, to save the world, she knew the road would not be easy. Yet she perceived herself as a servant of God. God had chosen her and she wanted nothing more than to give her all, back to God. She gave God her life and became a vehicle of God love and saving grace. Through her Jesus was born among us, lived with us and showed us the WAY in this life and to the next.

In the wonderful movie called Evan Almighty, an everyday person runs for office from a city In New York and is elected to US Congress with the promise to change the world. God, who is portrayed by Gordon Freedman, tells him that he wants him to build an ark. As he journeys with God, his life is dramatically changed and his family is greatly challenged, but when they come together in sticking together, there love and care for one another is deeper than ever and the ARK is built, though there is ridicule all around them.

As he is building the ark, the news media says to him, “So you think you are chosen by God to change the world.” And his response is that we are all called to change the world, by building an ARK. Throughout the movie, it is learned that building an ARK is in fact one Act of Random Kindness at a time. EVERY good thing we do with and for each other changes the world as what we do helps others, shines God’s love into darkness, builds family, and causes our own hearts to dance in the good we can and will do.

There are many things we can do in this parish family and if everyone commits in this New Year to One of these acts, with Mary, we too are saying, “I am your servant, Lord. Letting it be done to me according to your will.” Use us Lord and enable us to build you and ARK in this church, in this parish of New Milford and in your world.
